Athens Veterinary Surgery Center was created
by Dr. Anita Stampley and Dr. Myron
Downs in 1996 as a mobile surgery service in the
Athens-Atlanta area. The practice began with a handful of dedicated
clinics and has now grown to a full service surgery referral center
specializing in general, orthopedic, and spinal surgery for the
small animal patient.
Hours of Operation: The clinic is open Monday
through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Patient discharge may also
be scheduled from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturdays.
Appointments: Appointments are based on a
referral by your veterinarian. You may phone the office
(706-354-4002) to schedule appointments. Bring all pertinent
medical records, such as radiographs (x-rays) and laboratory
results. Animals scheduled to be sedated or anesthetized will need
to be fasted the night before. Please remove food by 12:00 midnight
and water by 7:00 am. Bring a carrier or leash to restrain your pet
in the waiting room. Information about dining, lodging, and other
points of interest in Athens are available upon your
arrival.
Payment Policy: Payment is expected upon
completion of outpatient services. In the event that your pet needs
hospitalization, you will need to leave a deposit. The initial
deposit will include the office visit plus half the estimated cost
of treatment. The balance is due upon completion of services. Cash,
major credit cards, and personal check with proper identification
are accepted.
Hospitalization: Outpatient surgery is
available for some patients. The staff surgeons will determine if
your pet will require overnight hospitalization. Occasionally,
critically ill patients are hospitalized overnight at the Animal
Emergency Hospital in Watkinsville, GA. Transportation to and from
this facility is available.
Communication: Every effort will be made to
update you on your pet's status while at our facility. Please feel
free to call to obtain status reports. Keep in mind that your
doctor may be in surgery at the time you call. Your doctor or a
staff member will be happy to update you on the status of your
pet.
Follow-up
Visits: You will be given written instructions concerning
aftercare following your visit. We recommend that you return for
all of your scheduled appointments so that we may evaluate your
pet's progress following surgery. These visits are important so
that we can assess healing and determine when it is appropriate to
let your pet resume normal activity.
